Follow Up Freebie to Shrunken Leprechaun Hats-It's Not Too Late to Do It Either!

http://www.mrsminersmonkeybusiness.com/2015/03/last-minute-pictures-of-luckys-visit.html
Did you shrink your students' leprechaun hats yet?? If so, you can swing on into MMMB to grab a freebie to get them thinking and writing!  They will draw their hats before and after, then write how they think it happened!  You will get the GREATEST ideas from them (albeit not necessarily to scientific!). It is so fun...then it is your choice if you choose to bring science into and explain how it was "likely" done. I opt to let them imagine and figure it out later in life....but it is entirely up to you, as well as the age of your students! Enjoy!

Saint Patrick's Day Science Experiment

Hello everyone! Kristen here from A Day In First Grade! I wanted to quickly share with you our newest "rainbow" Science experiment.

This past week we have been having a blast learning about Saint Patrick's Day and culminated our week with a fun science experiment!

To complete this science experiment you need:
bowls
water
3-4 skittles for each kid! (So easy, right?!)

Add enough water into each bowl to cover the skittles. Drop them into the bowl so that they are in the shape of a triangle or a square. Try to have your students place the skittles in the bowl so they are close to the edges. Finally DO NOT MOVE THE BOWL!!! What happens next is awesome! We did the experiment whole group so that my students would know what to do and then I let them try it on their own.

After their water changed colors, they drew what happened!

Click HERE to download the recipe card for this {free} Science experiment! The app will allow you to save the "recipe" and print it out!

Ready to Go Lists for You to EASILY Prep a Magical St. Patrick's Day

I've been sharing the Legend of Lucky's Shrunken Hat for years now so it has become automatic for me to pick up the things I need throughout the weeks before when I am out doing errands and, of course, its easy for me to quickly print and prep the things I need for this project....BUT this year, I've decided to add some additional magic to our day and it had my head spinning...
http://www.mrsminersmonkeybusiness.com/2015/03/i-made-your-shoppingprintingprepping.html

What do I need to buy for these projects?
What do I need to prepare?
As teachers, we are ALL busy.  It is so easy to let fun days like this pass by because the planning and gathering materials becomes tricky and time consuming.  I knew I needed to write out my plans for the activities....so I decided I would do it for you, too
(of course, the one for me was just on a wrinkled post it note).
I even separated out the buying, copying and prepping for each of the three activities in case you only want to have Lucky do one or two of the magic happenings on St. Patrick's Day!
If you have followed me at all over the years, you know I am all about EASY, PEASY, you know, working SMARTER, not harder!

So swing on into Mrs. Miner's Monkey Business to grab your FREE St. Patrick's Day planning guide for shrinking leprechaun hats, making rocks turn to gold, and turning magic dust into a yummy edible green treat!

FREEBIE Eraser Graph

http://www.sharingkindergarten.com/2015/03/center-saturday-with-freebie.html St. Patrick's Day is coming and we all love to get simple learnign ideas for our students.
And the more FUN we have, the more they seem to try.

I found some
seasonal erasers
for super cheap
and I had to make them into a graph.

I always encourage my students to make their graphs with different colors.
This small step makes them take a little more time
and also allows them to see the results in their graph a little better.

Here is the work my kinders did this past week.

10 More Days Until Lucky the Leprechaun Arrives-Prepare Your Classroom!

St. Patrick's Day
is almost here!  A few years ago, I got tired of all the mischief the leprechauns caused and the traps all over the classroom (not to mention the chaos that was created first thing when students arrived), so I came up with the fictitious character that every child grows to love (although they never actually see him): Lucky the LeprechaunLucky is more about creating magic than mischief!
http://www.mrsminersmonkeybusiness.com/2015/02/magical-st-patricks-day-planned-for-you.html
This is Lucky! Isn't he cute?  He prefers magic to mischief!

I drew up a legend (from a long time ago.....he he) that he comes on St. Patrick's Day eve to classrooms to grab cups (Styrofoam cups) and turns them into hats that fit his head (of course the poem and his plea all makes perfect sense to the children!).
Sounds crazy and silly, but the kids love the legend and love to create a hat that they hope that Lucky will love when he arrives.
So many of my students wanted to draw lucky clovers on their hats, so I came up with a directed drawing and set it up just like the others that my students have been doing all year!
They loved it and guess what??? They are all drawing shamrocks everywhere AND they were so happy to be able to give Lucky a piece of luck especially from them on his hat....click the picture below to find out more about Lucky's adventures AND grab your freebie, too!

Colors Assessment Ring Freebie

As a special education pre-school teacher my world pretty much revolves around data. Data, data, data! I'm always assessing on different skills and IEP goals. To help make that easier for me I've begun to create a set of assessment rings.

Each ring will have multiple ways to assess the child on that particular skill. The first set I've made is for colors. The full pack includes 7 different ways to assess students on colors. I've created a {FREE} sample pack that includes one of the seven question sets.

If you want to read more about the full pack with all 7 different sets of assessment questions, click {here} to go to my blog and see the post.
