I can write my name!

At the beginning of kindergarten, practicing writing your name is super important! Most of my students come in to kinder knowing how to spell their name out loud, but very few have actually had practice writing it. I made this printable to give my students a fun way to practice writing their names!

Fancy pen is probably their favorite!

Head on over to my blog to download this freebie and see what else I use to help my kinders with fine motor skills in the beginning of the year.

Free Dolch Word List Assessments

Finally, I've finished the last of the Dolch word list assessments.  Even though this says third grade, I still have students that learn some of the words from it.  Head on over to my blog to pick up this assessment along with all the other Dolch assessments and the a letter assessment.

STOP Getting Those 'No Name' Papers

With the beginning of the year here, it is time to establish new classroom routines and procedures! One procedure that I wanted my students to 'get down' right away is writing their name on their paper. I have cards on the board with the steps they are supposed to follow, I remind them to write their name a couple of times, and still....I get papers with no name!
On the second day of school, I showed my students our 'hand in' box and we went over highlighting our names before we put our work in. So far, so good!! There was a couple of times where a student went to hand in their paper, they grabbed a highlighter, and realized they hadn't written their name!

Enjoy! and start catching those 'no name' papers!

Letter Formation Freebie

Last year I created a fun Letter Limerick and Poem pack
for capital letters based on the amazing work of Dr. Holly... Dr. Jean's daughter.
Here is what they look like!
Then, you guys asked for a lowercase version.
And Dr. Holly worked hard and created a lowercase set of limericks and poems.
So I got busy and created a matching set of posters.
And all these are perfectly free... no strings attached... grab the download and enjoy!
Click on any of the pictures or {here} to grab these free Letter Limericks and Poems.

Out of this world freebie

This is a simple little activity that didn't make it into my larger space pack.  It's perfect for younger children learning to put numbers in order.  For older children, see if they can continue on if you start at a number other than one.  Make two copies and play concentration.  Click on the picture below to grab it for free.

Back 2 School is No Joking Matter Blog Hop

Many of us have already headed back to school.
Some of us are starting this week.
Then there are the lucky ones who have a few weeks left of summer vacation.

But, no matter how you slice it, it's going to happen sooner or later. We all have to go back to using our teacher voices, scheduling our bathroom breaks, sitting for hours writing our lesson plans, and sneaking M&Ms when we think no one is looking.

Well, the teachers from Freebielicious would like to take this opportunity to give you all a few things to laugh about during this time of utter panic and total exhaustion. It's time to take a break from the stapler that won't penetrate the wall, the alphabet letter that slipped behind your white board, never to be seen again, and the hundreds of books in your library that are no longer sorted. Don't think about the tons of meetings you are asked to attend when you'd rather be setting up your classroom, or the fact that you have 5 Ashley's in your class, and their last names all begin with the letter B.

Sit back with a cup of fresh brewed coffee (or chocolate milk, if you're like me and don't drink coffee!) and take a few moments to click through our blog hop and enjoy some hearty laughs. Then, when you are done, you can go back to completing all the tasks on your to do list. I hope you do so with a little less panic and a lot less exhaustion, knowing that you are not the only one wishing you could extend your summer vacation by just a few measly days weeks months.

Head on over to my blog to start the hop!

Making Class Books

One of my favorite activities to do with my class is to make class books. After I bind the book together, I stick it in our classroom library for the students to read. They absolutely love it!

The first class book we are going to make this year is titled At School. This book will be all about things we like to do and can do at school.

Alphabet Wall Templates

The alphabet wall in my kindergarten classroom is always a showstopper for visitors. They love the big bold letters and bright colors on display. I love using the beautiful wall as an educational tool as my students study each sound in the alphabet.
