Martin Luther King Jr. Freebie!

I love teaching my students all about Martin Luther King Jr.! We do *lots* of activities on acceptance, tolerance, and respecting each other!

Here are some of the activities we’ll be completing this year:

This is a craft I just created. I can’t wait to do it with my students! After reading MLK stories,  my students will have the chance to come up with their own dream for our world.

We’ll also be doing this fantastic activity I found over at a PRECIOUS blog called, Underpaid & Over Blessed. I LOVE her ideas! If you don’t follow her, you should be! Too cute! For this lesson, you can teach your students that no one is actually “black” or “white” by grabbing a bunch of different colored foundations at the Dollar Store and letting students mix foundations together to find their ACTUAL skin color. LOVE! Read more about this idea over at Brittany’s blog.

My last favorite activity that I did last year with my students was this AWESOME egg idea I saw over at The First Grade Parade. Show students two eggs: one white and one brown. This is such a fabulous way to teach students that even though we look different on the outside, we are the same on the inside.

Drawing For Literacy {Your Students Will Love It!}

Here's hoping that all of you Freebilicious readers have had a great holiday season.  As I was planning my centers this week, I decided it was time to create a new one that has been swirling in my mind for awhile now.  In these centers, students INDEPENDENTLY follow a simple 6 steps to create drawings and then either copy a sentence of your choice or creation (depending on their level, of course!) to practice handwriting or creative writing...I have been doing this in some type of form in my own classroom for a couple of years now, but am thrilled to now have it all in one easy-to-prepare AND implement packet...Now, the center will look the same week after week, but yet I can change the sentences depending on the popcorn words we are focussing on.  I know my students will just love the new, easy to use format.  I wanted you to find out for yourself by sharing this Happy New Year to you freebie of a snowman.  I hope both you and your students enjoy it as you begin 2013!

Swing on into Mrs. Miner's Monkey Business for other fun educational adventures and information!
